Clear Paths in the Honeybee Colony
An effective honey bee colony grows very quickly in early summer to around 50,000 bees. Around half fly out as foragers and then return home to the hive with pollen and nectar. So on any given day, 25,000 foragers are out and about at the same time. If a forager flies out ten times a day, she visits around 100 different flowers on each flight. So a single bee pollinates around 1,000 flowers every day! As a flower pollinator, the honey bee has a very special significance for humans among the various bees.
